A beautiful antique Bohemian Czech Amber/Carnelian Uranium Glass graduating faceted beads necklace. The lovely amber coloured glass beads were expertly made by Craftsmen to imitate either amber or carnelian gemstones. I think they look very much like amber, especially being faceted. It’s worth noting that the trace uranium content, which makes them fluoresce bright green under UV light, is totally harmless.
The necklace is hand-knotted, denoting quality and this makes it hang beautifully too. The thread had broken next to the clasp, due to its considerable age. Thankfully, none of the beads was missing and the string has now been professionally repaired. There is also a very old repair to the string on the opposite side, again, next to the clasp. These are not really noticeable as the repairs are right next to the clasp at the back (please see final photo). There are a few tiny fleabites, which is to be expected, but nothing which detracts in any way from its immense charm. The necklace is raring to go now!
