Vintage CASA PUPO Large Plant Pot Holder 1950s Majolica Basketweave Planter Mid Century White Ceramic Jardiniere Made in Spain. Vintage Homeware.

This fabulous mid-century white ceramic majolica basketweave plant pot holder, was hand-crafted in Spain by Casa Pupo. I have done quite a bit of research and have not come across another quite like it. It belonged to my Mum – she always had lovely and unusual things.
Casa Pupo was a super cool brand which, in the 1960’s, opened shops in London, the first of which was in Pimlico. This was frequented by the big stars of the day, like The Beatles, amongst others. Those pieces are stamped ‘Casa Pupo London’ whereas this one is stamped ‘Casa Pupo Spain’ and I believe it’s an earlier piece, before the shops were opened in London.
The pot is a lovely large size, glazed on the inside as well as the outside. This is very practical, because if you overwater a plant, the excess water will stand in the bottom, without causing damage to the surface of your furniture. Suitable for indoor use only.
There are some small areas with a little glaze loss here and there, and a stable hairline (please see final photo) but nothing which I think detracts from its immense charm.
