A very elegant and classic Antique Edwardian to Art Deco, string of lustrous simulated pearls, gently graduating in size, with a 9ct Rose Gold clasp. The ‘pearls’ are a lovely creamy colour, as older pearls were. If you take a closer look, you can see that the pearls are completely hand-made, they are not uniform in size, but vary slightly in shape and size – this also gives them a very Realistic Quality. These hand-crafted glass beads were coated in ‘Essence d’orient’ which is French for ‘pearl essence’. This was a substance made from fish scales and other secret ingredients, used to coat glass beads to emulate pearls. This also adds to the realistic effect. The coating has unfortunately worn away on a couple of the beads, but they are close to the clasp and don’t show whilst wearing. I don’t think this detracts in any way from its immense charm. The necklace fastens with a 9ct Rose Gold push-in tube clasp, stamped ‘9ct’, which closes with a reassuring click, but the necklace is long enough on a lot of ladies to go over the head without undoing the clasp.
Everything is ALL ORIGINAL.

The largest central ‘pearl’ measures: 7.8mm diameter
