A Stunning Antique Art Nouveau Bohemian Czech Uranium glass, faux carnelian and faux rock crystal beads necklace, which is simply Fabulous! Made up of beautiful large olive shaped glass beads and heavy cut glass crystal beads, graduating in size, to very large and chunky at the centre. Hand-crafted in the old Kingdom of Bohemia. The Czech’s were expert at imitating precious stones with glass, and this is no exception – it looks exactly like real carnelian and genuine rock crystal! These types of imitated stones are becoming more collectable than the real thing now. The only way to tell that the ‘carnelian’ beads aren’t the real thing (apart from the fact that they glow under UV light) is because there are air bubbles present and agate doesn’t contain air bubbles. The faceted cut glass crystal beads have lovely crisp facets and also expertly mimic rock crystal. All the beads are in wonderful condition.
It is worth noting that uranium glass contains only trace elements and is totally harmless.
There is no clasp, the necklace just goes over the head and is very easy to wear. The beads are hand-knotted, denoting quality and the string still seems good and strong. You just can’t beat a hand-knotted necklace for strength and durability over time, and this has certainly stood the test of time. It is such a lovely elegant length – I just love these long graduating bead necklaces.
