A beautiful and romantic antique Edwardian to early Art Deco hand-carved mother of pearl leaf choker necklace. The choker is fabulously iridescent and has been completely hand-made, with hand-carved leaves gently graduate in size. These are sewn onto silk tatting, which is still nice and clean, even after all these years. It really is an exquisite piece, which shines and glistens in the light. The necklace fastens with a push-in fish hook clasp, which is adorned with an imitation oval pearl cabochon.
These types of mother of pearl necklaces have been made in a very similar way throughout the ages, since Victorian times. I may be wrong, but I believe they would have been sold by mail order as a Bridal Necklace kit, including all the components and instructions, for you to put together yourself at home. This would explain why some are much more accomplished than others (depending on the skill of the woman making it). This is a very good example of a well-made piece.
Small Size, Measures: 13.5″ or 34.5cm. Fits a ladies slender neck. Please measure your neck to ensure a good fit.
