A Wonderful Reminder of Times Gone By.
A very charming vintage Chocolate Box, with a lovely English countryside river and forest scene. It reminds me very much of Dartmoor, in Devon, or parts of Scotland. The box is rectangular shaped, with a wonderful bevelled edge. The sides and base are covered in gorgeous aqua and gold linen look paper. The corners of the lid are all intact (which is unusual to find as these are usually the first to fall apart on old card). The interior is clean, with foxing commensurate with age. There is some age related surface wear, and a small hole on the top, measuring just 5mm long – this is on the left hand side, on a tree trunk (please see final enlarged photo) it is really not very noticeable unless scrutinising. The box would be perfect to have on display, as a film / TV prop, or used to store letters, jewellery and trinkets etc.
Lovely large size, measuring: 12” x 9” at base, or 30.5cm x 23cm
Lid measures: 10.25” x 7.25” or 26cm x 18.25cm
