A beautiful and unusual sterling silver Mid Century Modernist brooch, with leaves and spirals, hand-made by Gladys & Charles Mumford. The Mumford’s were a husband and wife team of silversmiths, who hand crafted pieces in the Arts & Crafts tradition. They were based in Falmouth, Cornwall in the 1950’s – early 60’s. The brooch is stamped simply ‘Silver’ on the reverse, as was the tradition with their work. There is some surface wear commensurate with age, but nothing which detracts from its immense charm. This was absolutely black when I acquired it – so I have given it a light polish and it has come up beautifully, but still retains a nice aged patina.
The brooch fastens with a simple C catch on the reverse. All in good order.
