A fabulous large SPHINX givre glass brooch in smoky topaz/amber colours with white swirls. A really stunning open back table cut ‘stone’, which looks gorgeous when it catches the light. A HUGE Statement piece, which is really heavy, denoting quality. The stone is in remarkable condition, with no chips, just some very light surface wear. The only thing, barely worth mentioning, is that some of the gold wash has worn thin here and there, but you really don’t notice this unless scrutinising. The brooch fastens with a secure rollover safety catch.
Sphinx was an English Costume Jewellery Designer and Manufacturer, established in 1948. They were famous for their exquisitely designed high-end pieces with fabulous rhinestones and glass stones, which looked just like the real thing. They made jewellery for Kenneth Jay Lane, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Saks 5th Ave, etc. Therefore, many of their pieces were not signed, as is the case with this one.
