Vintage WALDYBAG Black Satin Hand Painted Glass Beaded Floral Design Evening Clutch Bag 1940s 50s Handbag Made in England

An exquisite and very collectable Waldybag evening clutch bag. This gorgeous clutch has been hand-crafted in the Walldybag very distinctive signature style, with hand-painted flowers and tiny glass ‘ballotini’ beads. Created from black silk satin, with a contrasting interior of deep red silk satin, it has a chrome kiss clasp, which closes with a reassuringly loud click.
The minuscule ballotini glass beads were applied to the hand painted flowers while the paint was still wet, creating a glistening, textured effect, that is quite magical and unique, particularly when it catches the light. The unusual decorative technique for this luxury evening bag was developed and executed by Florence Campbell and sold by H. Wald & Co. The company was founded in 1915 in London, England. ‘Waldybags’ were very popular with the late Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. In fact, the Queen Mother gave her daughter (the late Queen) a hand-painted Waldybag as a 21st Birthday Gift!
There is some minor paint and glass bead loss, commensurate with age and use, which is barely even noticeable unless scrutinising and mentioned for the sake of accuracy. The name ‘Waldybag’ is imprinted in gold lettering on the interior. It is faint, but still perceptible.
Some of the photographs have been taken in natural light and some with the addition of flash, to show how amazing the ballotini beads look when they catch the light.
